Post Zulu Time Feature Request
on: June 29, 2012, 08:49

Dear LM Software Gurus :-)

As I usually like to start any flight at the actual current local time of the airport I'm departing from, it's a real pain to have to change the time of a saved flight so that it reflects the correct current local time after I enter the cockpit the next day at a totally different time to when the flight was first saved.

The system I use for running Prepar3D has Windows 7 64-bit and the OS clock is setup to Zulu time. It would be neat to be able to have a feature, where any saved flight can be loaded with either the time setup in Prepar3D when the flight was saved, or for any saved flight to be automatically loaded with the correct current Zulu time (or actual OS time if that's easier to implement), which will then correctly reflect the actual local time at the departing airport.

Cheers,

Jerome

Have you tried selecting Options\Settings\General\Program\"Use System Time for Free Flight"?

Hello Mike
the only thing is that (in World/Timeand Season) System time on 29-6-2012 refers to Time of day = Night at 21:00 ...it's broad daylight
Even GMT TIme reset the clock -2 hours returns still Night...at 16:00 it is dusk...

Jan, I'm not sure if that's relevant to Jerome's question. Perhaps I'm missing something.

I'm not familiar enough with the system to know how tightly coupled the "Time of Day" is with the actual visuals, but as a practical matter, here in Seattle we have broad daylight at 9:00PM yet consider it night.

Good morning Mike,

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, I've tried this, I'm not sure this has any influence on a saved flight that has been loaded. Even when I changed this after loading a flight, the time inside the simulation was unchanged.

My understanding is that when I currently save a flight, there is a date and time stamp that gets saved along with the actual aircraft parameters, such as aircraft location etc. What I'm suggesting or rather requesting, is that we have the option of a saved flight loading with either the current system time or the date and time stamp it was originally saved with. Let me give you an example:

The current date and time here in Germany is now Saturday 30 June 04:06 AM local, which is 02:06 ZULU. If I now start a new flight at KLAX and manually set the time within Prepar3D to be at sync with the correct local time there at KLAX or ZULU time, then the KLAX time would be Friday 29 June 07:06 PM. I now save this flight and exit Prepar3D and switch off my computer. Let's say that I then switch on my computer again on Sunday and fire up Prepar3D at 11:00 AM local time on 1 July, which would be 09:00 ZULU. I now load up my saved flight from 30 June and that's just it, my saved flight will show 02:06 ZULU on 30 June. But I want my saved flight to start at 09:00 ZULU July 1, and so once my saved flight has loaded, I again have to call up the menu and have to now change the time within Prepar3D to do this.

So for all of us that like to usually fly at current ZULU time, it would be great to not have to change the date and time once a saved flight has loaded....let this be an option when we load a saved flight.

Best regards,

Jerome
