As shown below the settings in the program do not match the settings in the Terrain section of the Prepare3D.CFG file.Sometimes a few change but not a consistent pattern.

If you are using Windows 7, make sure you are right clicking on the EXE file and selecting 'run this in Administrator mode' as Windows 7 will not allow alot of settings changes in P3D.

which cfg file are u viewing?

the correct one is in appdata/roaming/lockheedmartin/prepar3d

the one in the prapr3d root directory is a basic default for reference only (if the one above gets deleted/corrupted)

just a thought

Thanks, that was true. I started P3D's EXE as administrator. Changed the Scenery sliders and the CFG file was correct.
So, in my ancient eyes that is a bug in W7 or P3D depending how they are using commands to W7 to make the change.
Thanks

That di not solve my problem of water reflection being on all the time. Can't get rid of it. That is how I got into this lack of changes to the CFG. Will have to fiddle some more. I am so used to having a listing of the program it is awkward to just try this and that hoping to hit on something. Real pain.

Note that many of these settings to not get saved to the file until app shutdown.

Correct some items do require closure. So, let me just ask abou my basic problem. The picture shows a very strong sun reflection. No slider setting in P3D makes ANY change to this. I restart after each change. Ihave used REX2 Overdrive and REX Essentials textures. In REX2 Overdrive I used a backup folder that was supposedly FSX original textures. No change.

It seems to me that the reflective scene is caused by P3D. Changing the sliders and no change leads me to this assumption. But I have no way of proving it. Trying various textures in REX2 Overdrive and REX Essentials made no change. Which leads me back to the sliders in P3D having no efffect. Note: they do change values in the Prepare3D.cfg under USERS//Roaming.The picture was made with the Reflection Detail far left as were the other sliders in the water section. My next step is to uninstall and start over.

I also had REX2 Overdrive and had tried it several time to see if anything changed. I also used its "Initial Backup". Then I saw that REX2 Overdrive can cause issues with P3D. For some reason it had no uninstall.exe . So deleted it and cleaned the registry. Then restarted W7 to get the clean registry into memory. My issue is now solved. The refelections are still there on small paonds which is goofy but the extreme density of the reflections are gone. Sticking with REX Essentials obviously.
