Post Flight and load save error fatal
on: May 31, 2012, 04:28

Hello,

Translate Google :

I do not know if the following problem is posted in the bugs?

When I want to record a flight or a flight P3D open displays a fatal error and closes.
I tested the option on my matrox triple head displays and also
a single screen without matrox. . i'ai tested 4 times and always fatal.

If others find the same thing, thank you to confirm here.

Answered here.
Hard crashes of Prepar3D® are typically associated with administrator rights and permission incompatibilities on the computer. Navigating to Prepar3D’s install directory, right clicking on Prepar3D.exe, and selected ‘run as administrator’ will allow Prepar3D to access and write in the locations required.

Hi Christy,

Installing it in administrator mode does not overcome some of the built in Windows 7 protections when running the application. Please try right clicking on the Prepar3D.exe (not the shortcut) and selecting ‘Run as administrator’ from the context menu. If you can run successfully by doing that, you can confirm it is a permissions issue.

Is there any problem with your user space, the "documents" library? If this has been shifted, or a pointer to that has been modified by another program, then things like this happen.
This reminds me that I really wish to have a place inside of P3D to place flights, also through an installer, so that they can be accessed by ANY user as soon as they start P3D.

Thanks for the reply.
I need a litle more help with those files.
Its not much in that map. (My user/My documents/Prepar3D Files)
Its the XML document aircraft Choices and Logbook.BIN
Then its the file of the present default flight, in my case like this.
P-40 ENKJ.a2a A2A File
P-40 ENKJ Microsoft Flight Simulator Application
P-40 ENKJ.WX WX file

Then its 3 simular files to the Previous flight.
In my desperation i have tryed to rename all of this files to see if P3D is making new one of its own, but sorry to say the sim is going straight to Fatal every time.

You wrote that it might be a case with these files, or a pointer has been modified by another program.
But im searching for a resolution to the problem hopefully without reinstalling the whole Prepar.

Is there anything i can do to maybe pinpoint where the cause of this problem is?

Thanks again.

If you run as a different user, it would create an all new folder for that users, so if that works you know where the problem is...

Ok. Just a litle question before i proceed.
On my computer its only one account and thats ofcourse me.
This account has completely admin rights and no kids are entering this computer.
Im guarding it like a lion.. He he.
The question is:
If i create an new account and try to execute P3D from there, are you shure that im not makin any bugs towards the admin account?
Im abit scared that i have to reinstall the whole shabang once again, its not more then a couple of weeks since i saw myselfe finnished installing completely from scratch both FSX and P3D.
Both of theese simulator is installed on my F: disc, forgot to write that in my other post.

Hi oyvjohns,

We have recently seen some issues with people crashing if they have both FSX and P3D installed on the same non-OS hard drive. Would it be possible to install Prepar3D on the C: drive (or just a different drive than FSX) and see if the issue is still present? While having them both installed on the same drive works for many people, there are a few fringe cases where it does not.

The user account that you are using is it "Administrator", or is at an account that you added to the administrator group? The last really gave me lots of problems, so since years I only use the prebuilt administrator account. User accounts in the administrator group to my impression even are missing some essential rights normal users have.

Hmm. Cant say im too ceen on reinstal neighter FSX or P3D.
But if its no other solution i have to concider it.
Both my sims are around 100 Gb so its quite some work to scratch them.
Another thing is that i have to get me a new harddisc if i have to do this, so let me think twice.
My C: is a clean OS instal and i like to ceep it that way.
This issue Adam, is it something you work to get fixed? Or is it just a unfixable bug this far?
Seems like its quite many that have this error, i know of several in my MP crew here in Norway thats also got it so it would be nice if its something you would prioritize.

Thanks again..

Dear captains,
if you want to move your P3D installation from a non-OS disk to the OS-disk ...do this
http://janvaane.org/virtualfsx/?p=5674 ..and do back up your system before you go...
I swapped FSX from C:\ to F:\ and P3D from F:\ to C:\
Reason: limited space on the SSD (c:\) and crashes with P3D as from the installation on F:
Results: now crash free operation of both P3D and FSX
Visually the FSX installation remains as "linked" folder on C:\ as C:\FSX (in my case)

I do have a similar issue and can not fix it. When i start P3D and create a new flight and save this as default flight it everything works. Once I restart P3D I am getting a message "The requested flight file is corrupt or can't be found. Prepar3D will now try to load the default flight." P3D is indeed loading the factory default flight. But when I try to load my saved flight, it works. Any idea?

@ckaack: Check the file location where P3D stores the flights. By default it is this location: C:\Users\***yourname***\Documents\Prepar3D Files and check if both files (your filename + date+time) are there. (.FLT + .WX)
When you chose Flights>>My Saved Flights >> the file name should pop up
When it don't pop up, you have saved the files in another place; in that case you must retrieve the flight from that location via the Flights>>Flight Planner menu
Let me know.
